Finally, after several COVID delays, the Cemetery Shelter was officially declared to be in use on Tuesday 8th March at 11am. The opening was performed by John Mitchell representing the Cemeteries Trust, PDG Trevor Hirth representing the Australian Lions Foundation, Lions District Governor Tom Blair, and Lions Club of Leopold Heather Hallam. The bronze plaque listing all the donors who made it all possible had its cover lifted, and will be there for all to see for as long as the shelter is in use. The new plaque is shown in this series of photos, as well as DG Tom Blair and Lion President Heather Hallam.

Adopt-a-Highway is a Lions Club of Leopold Project

Nine members, good morning, not as much rubbish this time, but worthwhile. A good job done for Lions of Leopold. Highway Cleanup is a good project.

September 2019

The highway is cleaned up on a quarterly basis

Zone 5 Centennial Project

This project was formally given to the community today (16th December 2016) by the Lions representatives from every Zone 5 club, the City of Greater Geelong, and Barwon Water, all of whom have contributed to see that this drink stop near Banks Road on the Rail Trail is up and running. All of the Zone clubs were represented on the day (Clifton Springs/Curlewis, Leopold, Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads, Portarlington/Drysdale, Queenscliff/Point Lonsdale), and all contributed equally to this Centennial project. The City of Greater Geelong and Barwon Water installed the items and made all necessary connections without charge, and the water will have no ongoing charge associated with it due to the public nature of the facility.

National Research backed by Lions through the Victorian Lions Foundation.

The Foundation pays for a Research Fellow in the Neurobionics area, which encompasses the Bionic Eye and Deep Brain Stimulation, leading to treatment of the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease and a range of dystonias and dyskinesias.

Lions are also heavily involved in the Bionic Ear and Bionic Eye Projects, and the research projects have led to the Deep Brain Stimulation techniques shown above that help to control symptoms in Parkinson's Disease, Epilepsy, Dystonias and Dyskinesias

A further video showing how the electrodes are inserted is reproduced from Dr Wesley Thevathasan's web site, and is provided to him courtesy of the ABC, and is Copyright to the ABC.

Lions Assist - A project for the community

Lions Assist works by offering to the public the ability to get a Lion or some Lions to undertake SMALL jobs that the person making the request cannot do.

Lions Assist is designed so that it does not take work from local tradesmen. The jobs undertaken are small, such as changing a light bulb, changing a simple tap washer, or renewing a smoke alarm battery. These are just a small number of examples, but they are jobs that a tradesman normally does not want to do, because they cannot really justify the callout charge for something so simple, and all they get from the resident is a resentment of the charges.
